Valencia – Overview

Famed for its festivals and gastronomic delights, vibrant Valencia has shoot up the popularity rankings, placing itself hot on the heels of both Barcelona and Madrid. Located on the shimmering shores of the Spanish Mediterranean Sea, Valencia has proudly shaken off its industrial image and emerged as a premier destination for the savvy traveller.

For architecture enthusiasts, the gorgeously gothic Llotja de la Seda (or Silk Exchange) is only the start, as a slow stroll through the Barrio del Carmen will reveal a multitude of breath taking buildings and bohemian enclaves. Whilst shopper’s seeking something truly unique can be rewarded by an early morning excursion to one of the city’s many flea markets. Held at various venues throughout the week, brave bargain hunters can come home laden with colourful clothing, ethnic trinkets, and freshly picked produce.

Visitors are spoilt for choice by Valencia’s abundance of mouth watering restaurants. After seeing the sights, be sure to tuck into tasty plates of tapas or indeed order a sizzling pan of the city’s signature dish – Paella. Meals can be washed down with an aromatic glass of Rioja, made from home grown grapes, and rounded off with a chilled bowl of Arroz con Leche (a sweet Spanish rice pudding).

Famed for thriving nightlife, visitors to Valencia should be sure to head down to the buzzing bars of the Plaza del Ayuntamiento or alternatively the drinking dens that line the city’s old quarter.
