Alghero – Overview

Alghero lies next to the Mediterranean Sea in the North West of Sardinia. The city displays a distinctive Catalan character and is often referred to by locals as 'Little Barcelona'.

As well as a popular tourist destination, Alghero is also a thriving marina enabling the city to maintain a healthy economy outside the busy summer months.

The beach of Alghero is a sandy beach found north of the marina and nearby to the historic centre.

Alghero typifies Italy more than any other resort in Sardinia with it's old walled town along the sea front containing a network of pedestrianised narrow lanes. This area abounds with cafes, bars and restaurants with Alghero well known for it's excellent sea food.
